I would like to say though in the Chamber's defence that they are working really hard for not just its members but also for Doncaster as a whole. They dont move as fast as all may wish but it is importnat to get things right and that can take time. There is not a single person on the board who does not want what is best for Doncaster and business generally and I am very privileged to sit on that board.

Hi Andrew,

Glad you found the blog.

There's a lot in your reply. It'd be great to encourage other "people" in the community, as opposed to (companies, organisations or third parties) to create their own #DoncasterIsGreat blog post. Such great people should be encouraged to blog.

I'll be looking to write my Part 2 blog shortly after.

It is not often that I read an article that I agree 100% with. I do with this although I am somewhat embarrassed as I am named in it. It is lovely to be praised but it can mean that my comments are devalued accordingly. I hope they are not but the fear is always there.
I love Doncaster and so do so many others. It is a privilege to tell people that #doncasterisgreat because it is! Where else has a Racecourse, an Airport and a Safari Park? The real asset though is the people. We have open natures. We drive forward.
Our legacy in Doncaster is one of dependency on benefits, unions and grants aka “funding”. It has not done us any good. Dependency on others is not strength. We do not have to depend on others. We shall get beyond the funding culture in time. Things don’t have to wait for funding. Things can be done now. The South prospers without funding and we are better than the South. We have so many advantages that they don’t have because we are friendly folk who like people for who they are.
We do not need to prosper at someone else's expense. We shall thrive and so shall our neighbours.
I have a dream for Doncaster. My dream is that our airport shall be the 2nd Manchester airport in size and traffic. We shall be known here for our IT expertise and shall found here the 1st Silicon Valley outside of California. These are weighty achievements. They will not happen overnight but they will happen because we shall make them happen.
We need to embrace each other as our Union history teaches us that we need to be united or we shall be divided. I care not who is in power. I do care that those in power listen and love our town. It matters to me that those in power live in our town. Actions speak louder than words.
I look forward to the future. Our future. DoncasterIsGreat but its true glory awaits us. There is much to be done and we shall do it. Bring it on.

I like it! I liked Doncaster too. Thanks for showing me round, even to the famous @donnymarket.

There did seem a buzz there; LearnPod11 was definitely a vibrant event.

Regarding newspapers, I know what you mean, a newspaper constantly reporting all the bad stuff can drag the whole town down. I am grateful to the Editor of the Leicester Mercury for positive reporting here, his policy was even cited as a factor for the successful multi-culture we have in Leicestershire.

I hope you get a new editor soon!

BTW here is my Unconference report on the #learnpod11 event http://trabasack.visibli.com/share/Dd012L

What happened to 'comment love' and dofollow links, they didn't last long ;-)

Agree #DoncasterIsGreat! And I swear by it :-)

So how fitting it would be for Doncaster to be granted city status during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year!

Over the last decade I have witnessed Doncaster transformation beyond recognition as one of Yorkshire’s gems with new industries, great urban renaissance and leisure. And enjoyed its many hidden gems... like the market. Truly a great place where to live, work and chill, with great people.

Even for me who is French, Doncaster has real va-va-voom - it deserves a City Status crown!

Wave duly sent! It's great to see someone like Helen come through their first year in business so well - and to be such a good example to the rest of us. :)
